To be the first at anything is impressive enough. To gain a lasting reputation, even more so. But to sustain that over forty years is something else entirely. That's just what BMW has done with the 3 Series, which returns for the 2016 model year with new trims, new equipment, and offering a better drive than ever.

It seems to be a staple of automotive lore that models are only set to enjoy a certain amount of time in the limelight. That, however, is not the case for the BMW 3 Series, which has enjoyed three decades of dominance and twenty-two consecutive mentions on Car and Driver's 10 Best listing. Although they may try, the competition has been unable to match it.
